The History of the Herman Miller Park started when Mr. Miller bought the 30 acre parcel from Ida Hemmi in the early 1940's. Herman used this land known as the Hemmi Rd. property as an extension of the Ten Mile farm. It was used to let his cattle to graze on during the late spring and summer months of the year. Prior to 1940 say is the early 1900's the forest was harvested. We know this because Herman's father helped log the acreage in that area the same year Herman was born, 1918. Since that time this wooded acreage has not changed much and we hope to preserve the beauty of the acreage. Herman is a past 4-H Leader, past recipient of the Whatcom County 4-H Alumni award and Friend of 4-H for Washington State award to add to his many contributions to his friends of Whatcom County, WA. We worked with Herman and Diane Miller, Whatcom County 4-H Horse Leaders, Local and State 4-H Organizations for over a year to make the transfer a reality. In late 1993 the Herman Miller 4-H Park was born and the deed was transferred to the 4-H Program to manage the property. Herman wanted a safe place for youth to develop their Equine skills free from the road hazards that we are familiar with today. From that point with continued support from the Whatcom County 4-H Horse Leaders, Members, Families and local Organizations and Businesses, the Park is becoming a special place in Whatcom County.
